Niektoré málo známe nizozemské a flámske obrazy v slovenských umeleckých zbierkach
[Some Little Known Netherlandish and Flemish Paintings in Slovak Art Collections]

(Resumé)

The catalogue given by an author under your consideration appears to be a partial output of a long-term, still running research project, aimed at mapping both of Netherlandish and Flemish paintings of the 16th Century in Slovak art collections. It is a well-known fact, that because of the communist period, collections of Netherlandish and Flemish paintings preserved in Slovak art museums and galleries still remain unevaluated and sadly hidden for international experts. The fact, that no Slovak museum as well as gallery is conducted by a standard summary catalogue of its collections can be nowadays hardly overlooked.

The main ambition of the project is to enter little known Netherlandish and Flemish paintings into the relevant art historical literature of the world, to submit them under discussion of international experts and to move forward its research. Besides the mapping of Netherlandish and Flemish paintings of the 16th Century in Slovak collections the provenance of selected paintings is also regarded as an essential task of the project mentioned above. It means archival investigations carried out in order to put into a light the names of former owners of the paintings under discussion. The research project should be concluded in a form of English book in 2004 which would treat successfully survived Netherlandish and Flemish paintings of the 16th Century in Slovakia.
